“Ideas are the currency of the twenty-first century. In order to succeed, you need to be able to sell your ideas persuasively. This ability is the single greatest skill that will help you accomplish your dreams.”
The content offers, guidelines, supporting arguments, and TED examples. He talks about why 18 minutes is the ideal length of a speech, why a story should touch all senses, methods of delivery, and then offers how to “message map” a story. There is a lot of critical information on how to write and deliver an impactful speech. Talk Like TED is an enjoyable book to read and you will finish the book fast! I’m surprised that he doesn’t mention Toastmasters. Everything he mentions in his book are part of the Toastmasters speech criteria. Even though Toastmasters speeches are much shorter (generally 5-7min), Toastmasters is a fantastic practice ground for all the 9 points he highlights in the book. I encourage you to read this book and to join Toastmasters to practice what is in the book!
