As the author says, this is not a self-help book, but a “let-me-help-yourself-help book.” Me, in that sentence, is the author. There are no new extraordinary actions invented here, but a repetition of all the things you should have paid attention to in kindergarten, first grade, or at home (assuming you were brought up in a stable home). If you didn’t, Good Golly , Sarah Knight is giving you a 2nd freaking chance to learn all that stuff (my loose attempt to imitate the author).
The book is written in a colloquial, sarcastic manner, and words such as Shit and Fuck are freely used when giving advice. As the author says, “Think of this book as a delightfully profane one-stop shop for tidying your mind and making your life easier and better.” Her advice will show you how to set goals, how to push through small annoyances and thorny obstacles to meet those goals, and then how to imagine and achieve even bigger goals that you may not have thought possible. It will help you to get out of your own way and stay out. We should stop worrying about what we should do, so we can finish what we need to do, and start doing what we want to do. That is her intention! Here are my two freaking cents. You still have the responsibility of taking the advice to heart, and taking action. If you don’t, you have just wasted your time reading the book. The author also talks about letting shit go, but she seems to have a little bit of TDS. [She hates President Trump, his followers and the Republican Party.] It bothered her enough that she had to mention it subtly in the book. Just a little bit that she hasn’t been able to let go. Then again, that’s her problem 😊. The book is well thought out, well organized and contains a ton of valuable action advice. The advice funnels well because, from my perspective, all are based on her experience. The book is divided into four parts: Part 1: What we talk about when we talk about getting your shit together. Part 2: Small Shit: Nailing down the day to day to build a better future. Part 3: Tough Shit: Getting older, getting ahead, getting healthy, and getting better, and life in general. Part 4: Deep Shit: Mental health, existential crises, and making big life changes. Parodical writing makes it so easy to read and understand what she means. I recommend this book. I bought this book. This book is a follow up to “The life-changing Magic of Not Giving a Fuck,” and I plan to read it. It probably has similar shit 😊.
