Welcome to my Q and A session with Susan Zhou, DTM, International Director, Region 14
Why do people fail? What is the most common reason for failing or giving up? “OK. First, thank you for the question. This question has puzzled me for a long time. How do you describe or how do you define the word fail? What is failure? Sometimes it is like, you have a goal and you have not reached the goal and you might define that as a failure. But if you think about it in another way, what about the goal? The goal is actually something you really want. You have passion, you have intention. For some reason, this is from your needs. So, it is not necessarily the goal, but it is more about your needs. And the needs are coming from inside and anything can meet your needs. Once you find out the needs you may come up with new goals or the meaning for that. Then you will not interpret it not as a failure. But as a way, we go to become excellent and discover your best potential. If you have not touched the goal, you can ask yourself, is that the goal I really want, what does the goal means for me? The second things is, if this is really what I want it but if I hadn’t achieved it is that bad or good thing? Probably it is a good thing. That may open up an opportunity for you to realize that there is something I need to work on. I still have the potential to do to what I want to become. And finally, if you think I’m not good enough. Is that bad? That is not bad at all. We are not perfect. One thing I learned as an International Director, is that you don’t need to be perfect to be a leader or someone you dream about. It is all about the journey. You don’t need to be perfect to start your pathways. You don’t need to be perfect to serve as a club officer. You don’t need to be perfect to be International director…or your profession or anything. Once you turned to the perspective and mindset, you will see this is not failure, it is an opportunity to remind you…I see something in you!”
